Jolla Phone - OS and Smartphone Running Android Apps Coming in November - Why Would You Want to Have it (Video)

I am afraid that just about every gadget manufacturer these days has taken the road towards manufacturing an Android device. In the end it is for the users to decide which one to get but these days it can become really confusing. And here comes yet another OS along with a new smartphone.

Jolla Phone and its Sailfish OS are set set for a November 27th launch. The device will go for a pricy €399 - that is for a 4.5" qHD IPS LCD (960 x 540) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection, dual-core 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, LTE, expandable 16 GB storage and 8 MP camera among other things such as Bluetooth, GPS, Wireless, 2MP front and 8MP rear cameras along with other usual features.

The Sailfish OS looks great and seems to simply (fly) on the dedicated device. There are no lags, stutters or anything like that. It just works. The UI seems to be well thought and optimised and you have access to the most important apps straight away. In general it looks like a combination between iOS7, BlackBerry 10 and Android but it does not borrow just small fragments of the mentioned OSs. The interface is mostly gesture based and you can even choose the apps that come preinstalled.

Now for the most important part - developer support. Sailfish OS runs Android apps and the developers are claiming they run just like a normal Android OS smartphone. It's clearly their statements are a bit exaggerated and not all app will work but over time things may improve. For me the device looks attractive design wise and it also will be available in 9 different colors. But for a new entry on the market the price seems rather high. Jolla is based on Gecko Engine 20.0 which is also used by Firefox OS. But enough talking. Let's see how it looks and runs.
